This was one of my favourite cartoons back when I was a kid. Produced by Kievnauchfilm, it is drawn in their characteristic cartooning style, reproduced later in other works, such as "Sledstvie Vedut Kolobki" (not sure how to translate the title without first having to explain what is a "Kolobok," so I'll just leave it in Russian). There are filmed insertions in the cartoon, in which men in pirate outfits sing silly songs. I was sloppy translating those, because, well, they are lame. Even when I was a kid I thought they were lame -- nay, even retarded. If it was up to me, I'd just remove them entirely, but thankfully they aren't too long and may even be worth watching for the "wtf" factor.
There is one running gag in the cartoon, which is the "personality profiles" for all main characters. These are a spoof of an extremely popular Russian mini-series "Seventeen Moments of Spring" -- a spy novel about Standartenfuhrer-SS Max Otto von Stirlitz, who is a Russian agent working in S.S. offices in Berlin in the last days of the 2nd world war. It's a highly enjoyable series and I very much recommend watching it to anyone -- though I don't think I'll be translating it in any near future, as it's 12 parts, each 70-80 minutes long (here's a link to the first part on arjlover). Here's an excerpt with Stirlitz's own personal profile (with my subtitles):
Here is the excerpt from the cartoon (youtube is having strange difficulties with my clip -- there are no video problems with the original file):
Original title: Остров сокровищ, первая часть
English title: Treasure Island, first part
Studio: Kievnauchfilm

Download subtitles: mricon.com
The "Treasure Island" excerpt makes it look like a great cartoon. More, more if you've got it! Thx.
